Anwar to meet king tomorrow morning

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will be having an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow, according to sources.

The sources indicated that the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the ending of the emergency are among the issues expected to be discussed in the meeting.

Malaysiakini learned that the opposition chief is set to meet Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in the morning. However, no specific timing was provided.

"Yes, that is true," a party official confirmed with Malaysiakini when queried about the matter, but declined to elaborate further.

Yesterday, Khairuddin Abu Hassan, a member of the opposition's committee lobbying for an end to the state of emergency, said that the king had agreed to a meeting with the leaders of all political parties.

Earlier today, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) confirmed that its chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad received an invitation from Istana Negara for an audience with Sultan Abdullah, but the time has yet to be ascertained.

According to a source, Anwar is set to highlight several issues surrounding the country's situation, including the spikes in the number of Covid-19 cases and economic woes faced by the rakyat.

Another matter that the opposition leader is expected to bring up is the ongoing state of emergency, which is scheduled to expire in August.

Malaysiakini also asked if Anwar might use this opportunity to show his number in Parliament, to which the source responded: "I don't know". - Mkini
