RAWANG: Police here have refuted claims that a disabled girl was kidnapped, as claimed in a viral video here.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the incident occurred at around 9am on Saturday (June 26).
"The complainant is a 54-year-old woman, who claimed she had gone to a stall to buy breakfast with her disabled 16-year-old daughter in front of a bank at Bandar Country Homes. She only realised her daughter was missing after buying breakfast," he said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the complainant asked several stall operators there if they had seen anything, and one of them told her the girl had entered a grey car.
ACP Zainal Mohamed added that the investigation revealed that the girl had wandered off by herself and flagged down a vehicle near the stalls while her mother was buying breakfast.
"The 80-year-old driver stopped his vehicle and allowed her inside because he thought she needed help," he said.
ACP Zainal Mohamed said the man, however, could not help her because she did not speak at all until several people stopped the vehicle at Saujana Rawang and accused him of abducting her.
He said the 26-second video showing vehicles surrounding a car, while a woman is seen yelling and kicking the driver of the vehicle was uploaded and forwarded to several WhatsApp groups by an acquaintance of the complainant, and the car was then spotted at Saujana Rawang at about 12.30pm.
"Our investigations revealed there is no element of kidnap or abduction connected to this case. The complainant has since retracted her missing persons report," said ACP Zainal Mohamed. - Star
