Lecturers speak in dialects to educate the public on Covid-19 vaccination

The use of various languages in the dissemination of information on the Covid-19 vaccine will resonate well with the speakers.

Realising this, a group of lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), took the initiative to educate the public on the COVID-19 vaccine via several video clips using the different languages spoken by Malaysians to promote vaccination and curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

The faculty’s dean Prof Ishak Ahmad said the effort was carried out to increase public knowledge and reduce their apprehension over getting the jab under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

"We see that turnouts (for vaccination) are very low, so the approach is to use the dialects used by local communities, approaching them using the language they understand.

"Currently, the videos feature faculty lecturers because they have the ability to better convey facts about vaccines in layman terms," Ishak told Bernama yesterday.

The video clips can be viewed on the faculty’s Facebook at this site.

Ishak said future clips will feature virologists and students who have received their Covid-19 vaccination.
