Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Pusat Perkembangan Didik Istimewa Cekal has apologised after earlier accusing Segamat MP Edmund Santhara Kumar Ramanaidu of blocking aid for an accident survivor.
A spokesperson from the NGO said they are retracting their earlier statement, which they said may have stemmed from a misunderstanding.
“I wish to express our sincere apologies to the MP if there is any misunderstanding.
“I hope there will be no more postings of hate and condemnation after this,” said spokesperson Doreen SC Bong in a Facebook post.
The group also confirmed that an officer of Santhara (above) lodged a police report against it over the incident.
The group made a Facebook post on June 6 claiming it was unable to channel financial aid to an accident survivor in Segamat, Johor who needed the money for surgery.
They said the funds it collected for the survivor would have to be channeled to other patients who are in urgent need of medical expenses.
However, Santhara who is also the federal territories deputy minister said his service centre already assisted the survivor in question after being informed of their misfortune.
He denied the NGO’s allegations and said, “I appreciate the willingness of NGOs to provide assistance and always welcome any cooperation to ensure the welfare of the people in Segamat can be improved.
“However, the NGO’s slander and provocation in these difficult times should not happen,” he said. - Mkini
