PETALING JAYA: Former Perak menteri besar Zambry Abd Kadir has been appointed as Barisan Nasional’s new secretary-general, becoming the third person to hold the post this year.
Zambry replaces Ahmad Maslan who took over from Annuar Musa who, in turn, was sacked in January, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has confirmed.
According to another source, the appointment was announced at the coalition’s supreme council meeting which was held online.
On Jan 5, Annuar – who was accused of being too cozy with Bersatu – was removed as both BN secretary-general and Muafakat Nasional secretary-general.
He was replaced by Ahmad who is also Umno’s secretary-general.
Zambry is a former Perak Umno chief and served as the menteri besar from 2009 to 2018.
In August last year, he was named as Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd chairman. - FMT
