PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies is to study documents submitted by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan regarding a recent ruling nullifying the Umno supreme council’s decision to delay party elections.
Ahmad said in a social media posting that he had met the registrar for an hour-long meeting today. The meeting went well, he said.
He hoped for a positive result from the meeting and advised Umno members and leaders to be patient.
The registrar of societies, Jasri Kasim, confirmed the meeting with Ahmad. He said Ahmad had submitted some relevant information, and the RoS would study it.
Last week, Umno said the registrar had instructed the party to hold its elections as soon as possible, and ruled that the postponement of party elections was not legitimate as the Supreme Council had decided on the postponement in July, well after the expiry of their term of office on June 30.
In response, Ahmad had said that the party’s decision to postpone the elections had been made in June. - FMT
