PETALING JAYA: Police have opened an investigation into Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s claim that he was pressured by “certain parties” to intervene in court matters to drop criminal charges against several individuals.

Bukit Aman CID director Abd Jalil Hassan said 10 police reports had been lodged to date, Sinar Harian reported.

“No one has been called in yet, but police will provide an update on what section (of the law) the police reports were based on,” he told the Malay daily.

Muhyiddin made the claim on Wednesday during a televised address in response to Umno retracting its support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government.

He claimed these individuals were uneasy over the fact that he had refused to entertain their demands.

While Muhyiddin did not elaborate on the matter, several Umno leaders are currently facing court charges.

They include party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, former president Najib Razak, secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, Bung Moktar Radin and Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

Najib has since refuted claims that he had sought Muhyiddin’s help to remove judges presiding over his SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption trial and appeal hearing.

Zahid has also described as “completely untrue” claims that the party had retracted support for Muhyiddin’s administration over the prime minister’s refusal to drop charges. - FMT
