KOTA KINABALU: A detainee was behind a new Covid-19 cluster in Sabah’s east coast Sandakan district that has infected at least 50 people, including four policemen.
Sabah local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said the Lebuh Empat cluster was triggered by a 63-year-old man who was found infected after a screening for incoming detainees on Aug 5.
He said 122 close contact samples were taken, with 50 coming back positive, including 35 detainees and four policemen.
The cluster was among two new ones detected in the state over the past 24 hours. The other one was the Sarikan cluster in the Nabawan interior district, which was a community infection.
Meanwhile, Masidi said new infections remained high in Sabah today, with 1,255 cases recorded in the past day, a slight drop of 36 cases from yesterday’s numbers, bringing the cumulative cases in the state to 92,456.
A total of 4,449 cases are still active.
Of the number, 152 were fully vaccinated and 136 had received their first dose. - FMT
