GEORGE TOWN: A specialist who suffered extensive burns following an explosion caused by a gas leak at his home about three weeks ago succumbed to his injuries last week.
Dr Seow Eng Lok, a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Island Hospital, died on Friday, a spokesman for the hospital said. He was 53.
In the July 20 incident, he suffered 95% burns all over his body following the explosion and fire at his home in Solok Jesselton.
Seow’s wife had told police that he had gone downstairs at about 5.30am when he suspected that there was a gas leak.
Investigators found a leak on a hose connected to LPG cylinders placed outside the home, which was also badly damaged.
Police have ruled out foul play.
Seow was taken to Island Hospital where he was placed in the ICU.
He had served the hospital for 16 years and had attended to more than 80,000 patients during his tenure there, the hospital said in a short statement to FMT. - FMT
