Investigation papers on MPs march to Parliament submitted to AGC - IGP

The investigation papers on a number of MPs gathering at Dataran Merdeka in the federal capital on Aug 2 have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said all the MPs involved in the gathering had given their statements and police had also completed the investigation into the matter.

InsyaAllah, there will be a decision and action will be taken. It might not take long,” he said when met by reporters after handing out some daily necessities to retired police personnel at their homes in Kuala Nerus today.

The group of MPs had gathered at Dataran Merdeka before proceeding to Parliament and tried to enter its grounds in pushing for resumption of the Dewan Rakyat special sitting, but they finally dispersed without incident after being ordered by the police.

The five-day special sitting was scheduled to end on Aug 2 but was postponed on the advice of the Health Ministry following the spread of Covid-19 within Parliament grounds.

Meanwhile, Acryl Sani said the reported freeze of all police officers and personnel’s leave effective last Thursday (Aug 12) was just an administrative process and it was normal that the police would need to always be in a state of preparedness.

“The police are always required to be prepared. The leave is just an administrative (matter). In a preparedness state, we will restrict leave to ensure that the level of preparedness is always met,” he said.

A circular dated Aug 12 that went viral quoted Acryl Sani issuing the order that all domestic and overseas leave as well as inter-district movement for all senior and junior police officers were frozen until further notice effective from the date of the circular.

When asked if the police were now making preparations for the possibility that the general election would be called soon, Acryl Sani said: “Not yet.”

He also announced that police had yet to receive any report on the misuse of the vaccination digital certificates, but they would continue monitoring and take certain measures to prevent it.
