JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar granted an audience to deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob at the Pasir Pelangi Palace today.
There were no details on what the audience was about.
Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook page posted that Ismail arrived at the palace around 10.45am, with the audience lasting more than an hour.
According to a source, Ismail will also be meeting with the leaders of 26 Umno divisions after his audience with Sultan Ibrahim.
But Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin told FMT that Ismail was holding a meeting with the Johor Umno political bureau, adding that no invitations were sent out to him.
“I was made to understand that it’s a political bureau meeting, not of division chiefs,” said Khaled, who is Pasir Gudang Umno chief.
Ismail is one of the Umno MPs who are continuing to back Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his government. He even held a press conference last week where he claimed that 31 Barisan Nasional MPs were still supporting the Bersatu president.
Ismail’s audience comes a day after Sultan Ibrahim issued a stern warning against any attempts to topple the current state government, saying he would not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly.
“We don’t need politicians to represent the people if all they think about is themselves and not the interests and welfare of the rakyat.
“I will not entertain any political games by assemblymen and risk destabilising my state and government.
“If that occurs, then I will not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly,” he said when opening the state assembly yesterday.
He then granted an audience to the prime minister yesterday at the Pasir Pelangi Palace. - FMT
