Klang MP requests more urgent help for HTAR

Klang MP Charles Santiago has requested the government to channel more urgent assistance for the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) as the situation remains dire even after a recent visit by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.

Among others, Charles in an Aug 11 letter to Adham requested for more medical personnel and more equipment; more ambulances; improved cleaning services, and to address a delay in food provision services at the Emergency Department.

He also urged the hospital to provide a 24-hour hotline for family members to inquire about their loved ones.

Charles said there were noted improvements over the past two weeks but several major complaints remain unaddressed.

"The waiting time for a patient seeking treatment is between three to four hours.

"There were also cases of patients falling unconscious but their emergency statuses were not immediately attended to by HTAR due to a lack of ambulances," said Charles in the letter copied to HTAR director Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi.

Further, Charles said his office also received complaints about the frequency of toilet cleaning as well as food served at the Emergency Department.

His letter to Adham was sent about two weeks after the duo's surprise visit to HTAR last month.

At the time they had met with patients, doctors and Zulkarnain, prompting Adham to make arrangements including for GLC Pharmaniaga to send 400 packs of food to the hospital each day to ensure that patients do not go hungry.

In early July, the government had announced RM1.1 million worth of supplies for HTAR, including 60 beds and additional equipment that the ministry did not specify.

The allocation was part of resources channelled to Klang Valley hospitals which are under immense pressure to cope with record-high numbers of positive Covid-19 cases. - Mkini
