PETALING JAYA: The Malay rulers have started arriving at Istana Negara for a special meeting today chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The special meeting of the Council of Rulers is set to discuss the formation of a new government and the appointment of a new prime minister.
The Pahang Regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, was the first to arrive as he entered the palace grounds at 1.55pm.
The King and his deputy, the Perak Sultan, had met with party chiefs from PKR, DAP, Amanah, Umno, PAS and Pejuang for two hours on Tuesday.
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said the King had called for leaders to work together to address the Covid-19 and economic crises, and to leave behind “politics of the old”.
Sultan Abdullah then granted audiences to the 114 MPs who were said to be backing Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob for interim prime minister.
Muhyiddin Yassin had resigned as the prime minister on Monday. - FMT
