PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has thrown its full backing behind its president and former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin to lead the party to greater heights.
Its secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the party stands completely behind Muhyiddin’s leadership and trusts him to further solidify Bersatu’s position in facing future challenges.
“The whole Bersatu leadership and its members wish to record their highest appreciation and thanks to Muhyiddin for his leadership and contributions during his duration as the Malaysian prime minister,” he said in a statement today.
Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister on Monday. He was succeeded by Ismail Sabri Yaakob of Umno, who had been Muhyiddin’s deputy in the Cabinet.
Hamzah said Bersatu was proud of Muhyiddin’s principled, magnanimous and transparent leadership, which also exemplified his respect for the supremacy of the Constitution.
“His sincerity to prioritise the people’s interest was proven in his role to ensure all the Perikatan Nasional component parties agreed to nominate Ismail as the sole candidate for the prime minister’s post.”
Hamzah also conveyed the party’s best wishes to Ismail on his appointment, saying Bersatu was confident that everyone will now come together for the benefit of the people and the country.
Ismail was sworn in as the ninth prime minister earlier today. - FMT
