This is the danger with calling for a vote of no confidence. If your vote fails, then it becomes a vote of no confidence against you. And if that happens, you will need to resign instead. And Zahid now has no choice but to resign as both Chairman of BN and President of Umno.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
It looks like Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has 13 Umno Members of Parliament who support him against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. In a letter to Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, 12 Umno MPs (together with him) have signed declaration letters (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was the lone Umno MP who did not sign any letter).
Hence 14 Umno MPs (13 in writing) have voted against Muhyiddin in what can be considered as an unofficial vote of no confidence.
This can only be interpreted as 27 Umno, MCA and MIC (meaning Barisan Nasional) MPs have voted against Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
What many do not realise is, while 14 Umno MPs have unofficially passed a vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin, 27 BN MPs have unofficially passed a vote of no confidence against Zahid.
Another way of putting it is Zahid has lost the vote of no confidence against him with a vote of 27 versus 14. And this means Zahid will need to resign as the Chairman of Barisan Nasional as well as the President of Umno.
This is the danger with calling for a vote of no confidence. If your vote fails, then it becomes a vote of no confidence against you. And if that happens, you will need to resign instead. And Zahid now has no choice but to resign as both Chairman of BN and President of Umno.
