Perak PKR has urged police to expedite investigations into a rape allegedly by two men linked to Bersatu Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham.
This comes after the woman who claimed she was violated said police have yet to respond nine months after she reported the incident.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim previously told Malaysiakini that investigations would be completed “soon” but did not state a date.
In a statement today, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak called for justice to be served.
“I represent the rakyat who want justice in the legal system.
“And I ask the police to be transparent in their probe into those involved regardless of their background [...]
“All sexual crimes complaints should be taken seriously to create a safe environment for the Malaysian people,” he said.
The politician speculated if there was “political interference” into the case.
“It cannot be denied that some are concerned and have begun questioning if there is interference in this case because it involves the political secretary to International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali,” Farhash (above) said, referring to Hilman.
Yesterday, the woman vowed to sue the police if they did not provide an update within seven days.
Her lawyer Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi had compared the delayed action in her case to the swift action taken in alleged sexual misconduct by lawmakers like Tronoh assemblyperson Paul Yong and Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil.
The woman previously accused Hilman for “setting up” her rape.
According to her police report, she said the two alleged rapists along with Hilman had celebrated her birthday at a hotel on Dec 4, 2020.
The alleged rape took place later that night.
Hilman has yet to respond to multiple requests for comment on this matter. - Mkini
