KUALA LUMPUR: Perlis now has the highest R-naught (Rt), or infectivity rate, as compared to other states.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of Aug 13, the Rt in Perlis stood at 1.41, which is higher than Malaysia's overall infectivity rate of 1.05.
He said the Rt in all states were higher than 1.0, except for Labuan and Putrajaya, which recorded 0.68 and 0.94 respectively in its infectivity rates.
"This is followed by Sabah, Kelantan, Penang that recorded a 1.18 Rt; Sarawak (1.15); Kedah, Terengganu and Perak (1.12); Perak and Johor (1.11); Pahang (1.06), Melaka (1.04), Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (1.02)," he said in a statement today.
The Health Ministry identified 34 new clusters today.
They consist of 20 workplace clusters, 12 community clusters, one high-risk group cluster and one detention centre cluster.
These clusters contributed 1,110 cases thus far - workplace clusters (796 cases); community clusters (215); high-risk group (49) and detention centre (50).
The workplace clusters comprised six detected in Johor (Perindustrian Jalan Idaman, Industri I-Park Lima, Industri Cyber Empat, Industri Sri Gading, Jalan Awang Daik, Taman Permata Kluang); three in Selangor (Industri Batu 16 Setengah Rawang, Bukit Semenyih 3 construction site, Industri Persiaran Jaya); three in Kuala Lumpur (Damai 2 construction site, Jalan Ayer Jerneh, Jalan Sibu Satu); two in Penang (Lintang Bayan Lepas Lapan and Persiaran Cassia Selatan construction site), two in Melaka (Industri Jalan Berkat Sembilan and Industri Tangga Satu); two in Kelantan (Industri Jalan Pengkalan Chepa and Kampung Cherang Panji), one in Perak (Jalan Perusahaan Empat 2) and one in Pahang (Jalan Lim Hoe Lek).
"This is the third time an outbreak happened at a construction site in Bukit Semenyih, Beranang. This cluster was the Bukit Semenyih 3 construction site.
"The other repeat clusters are the Industri Persiaran Jaya cluster that involved workers of a factory in Jalan Saujana, Sungai Ramal Dalam, Kajang; and the Damai 2 construction site cluster and Jalan Perusahaan Empat 2 cluster that also involved factory workers."
The 12 community clusters comprised six in Kelantan (Chiku Renok, Renok Baru, Jalan Sawmill, Kamoung Jelor Hilir, Kampung Jelor Hilir and Jeram Tekoh); three in Pahang (Kampung Busut Jin, Bukit Rangin and Kampung Terisu); two in Sarawak (Sungai Menok and Taman Indah Landeh); one in Negri Sembilan (Raja Alias Tiga).
"Two of those community clusters in Kelantan – Jeram Tekoh and Chiku Renok – involved the Gua Musang district and stemmed from visiting activities."
The sole high-risk group cluster, Lorong Bunga Raya, was reported in Klang, Selangor. It involved workers and residence of a care-centre in Lorong Bunga Jaya, Kampung Raja Uda.
The sole detention centre cluster, Penjara Seberang Perai 2, is also a repeat cluster.
It was detected during screening at a detention centre in Jalan Krian- Kedah, Sungai Jawi, Seberang Perai Selatan, before prison admission. - NST
