PETALING JAYA: A teenager in quarantine decided she wanted to go for a walk, so she cut off her pink ribbon and went out.
However, she was exposed when a video showing the 17-year-old removing her wristband went viral yesterday. She was hit with a compound fine of RM5,000 by police.
The 31-second video posted on TikTok shows a teenager wearing a helmet taking off a pink wristband inside her house.
Taiping district police chief Osman Mamat said, according to the initial investigation, the incident took place in Kamunting, Perak.
“After identifying the video, police managed to track down the location of the teenager who was found to have removed the quarantine bracelet without the permission of the health ministry
“The teenager went for a test last Saturday and is waiting for her results,” he said, according to a report by Harian Metro.
The teenager was fined under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
“Any individual who is found to have intentionally violated the rules will be investigated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” he said. - FMT
