DBKL shuts down foreign-run sundry shops, food stalls

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has shut down several business premises run by foreigners in the city for flouting rules under the Local Government Act 1976.

In a Facebook post, DBKL said four sundry shops and convenience stores in Titiwangsa operated by foreigners were forced to close yesterday under Section 101(1)(v) of the Act.

In Wangsa Maju, 10 food stalls were shuttered and seized, with three of them operated by foreigners. Action was taken against the seven others for blocking parking spots and the road.

Checks by DBKL found that the three stalls operated by foreigners were rented from local residents at a rate of RM25 to RM35 a day, depending on the size of the stall.

DBKL warned that it would continue to take action against these businesses run by foreigners, urging the public to provide it with information. - FMT
