An Umno MP today advised Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to be wary of his latest supporter - Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said Nazri has a reputation for switching political allegiances.
"I don't have a problem if he wants to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) or the prime minister although he once fervently opposed Muhyiddin alongside me.
"That is Nazri. Flip flop. He can support anyone or change into an opponent at any moment," said Jazlan (above).
Jazlan said this in response to Nazri's comments to The Vibes, where the latter described former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak as a "bloody liar" and a "b******" for Najib's account of how many Umno MPs agreed to support PN.
According to Nazri, 40 BN MPs met on July 29 and everyone in attendance agreed that "we don't mind backing PN, even if we don't support Muhyiddin".
Jazlan did not dispute Nazri's account of the July 29 meeting. He explained that the position taken was due to a letter from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to Muhyiddin, where the sovereign objected to not having the emergency ordinances debated in Parliament.
"On July 30, (that letter) was leaked. Only then did we know the real story between the government and Istana Negara. After studying the contents, a lot of government lies were exposed.
"Therefore, to uphold the royal decree, Umno made a final decision (on Aug 3) to withdraw support for PN and the prime minister. We don't want to be involved with the penderhaka (traitors)," said Jazlan.
In view of this, and the fact that Nazri allegedly benefited from Najib's government in the past, Jazlan said Muhyiddin should be wary of Nazri.
"How much can Muhyiddin control Nazri from changing direction and engaging in backstabbing yet again?" asked Jazlan.
Between late-2018 and 2019, Nazri issued public statements supportive of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. He then took part in the "Sheraton Move" in February 2020 and joined Muhyiddin's government.
Jazlan was the first Umno MP to officially cut ties with PN on Jan 9 with Nazri following suit two days later.
However, in recent months, Nazri has been an ardent critic of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and a supporter of Umno keeping ties with Muhyiddin. - Mkini
