Date tycoon Yusuf Taiyoob laments frequent delays on Firefly flights

Free Malaysia Today
Yusuf Taiyoob, a frequent business traveller, said Firefly’s ‘retiming’ of flights has been recurring often lately.

PETALING JAYA
Businessman Yusuf Taiyoob is upset over a series of delays affecting his Firefly flight from Subang’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to Penang today.

Yusuf, the managing director of one of the largest date importers in the country, said his 45-minute flight, FY1432, was supposed to depart for Penang at 5pm but it was delayed at least four times and only took off at 9pm.

Yusuf, a frequent business traveller, said Firefly’s so-called

retiming
of flights had been recurring often lately.

“And nobody from the carrier can give me an explanation as to why the flights are delayed. This is not just an inconvenience, it is unacceptable.

These delays show a lack of respect for passengers’ time. It also raises questions as to whether the company is operating efficiently,
 he told FMT.

It is not only happening to me. Many old people and young families are made to wait for hours. We are paying for their inefficiency.

Checks on social media show that rescheduled Firefly flights were not limited to the Subang-Penang route and have affected many other travellers as well.

FMT sighted a long list of text message notifications Yusuf received from Firefly informing him of his retimed flights.

He urged the transport ministry to investigate all domestic flight schedules and enforce stricter oversight to ensure airlines adhere to their timetables.

As a businessman, time is important. These delays have affected not just me but the wider business community.

FMT has reached out to Firefly’s parent company, Malaysia Aviation Group, for comment. - FMT
