Selangor PKR and Amanah will leave it to the coalition government’s top leadership to consider the state Umno's request for a seat in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency in the next general election.
Selangor PKR information chief Halimey Abu Bakar said the state Umno and Pakatan Harapan leaderships need to look into it.
"Regarding the seats requested in Sungai Kandis or the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency, I think the state Umno and Harapan leaderships should study the matter.
"I would say it depends on the leadership of both parties as we are under the same (coalition) government," Halimey told Malaysiakini.
He believes though, in principle, it would be difficult for the Selangor Harapan leadership to consider state Umno's wishes.
"However, at the end of the day, everyone has to abide by the party's decision," he added.
Selangor Amanah chairperson Izham Hashim echoed Halimey on the matter.
"Whatever (Selangor Umno) desires, it has to be discussed at the Harapan-BN state leadership level," he said briefly when contacted.
One shot
Earlier, Kota Raja Umno division head Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz requested the party be given one of the four seats Harapan previously contested in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.
The request involves the Kota Raja parliamentary seat and three state assembly seats - Sentosa, Sungai Kandis and Kota Kemuning.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later backed Zafrul's remark, saying it is aligned with the political reality built on mutual understanding between parties in the coalition government.
In last year's six state elections, Selangor Umno only won two out of the 12 seats it contested, namely the Sungai Air Tawar and Dusun Tua, represented by Rizam Ismail and Johan Abd Aziz, respectively.
Rizam defeated Perikatan Nasional candidate Zaidi Selamat with a slim majority of 846 votes, while Johan defeated PN's Azhar Hambali and Muda's Al Hafiz Ikhwan with a 3,014 vote majority.
The state polls also saw the defeat of Selangor BN chairperson Megat Zulkarnain Omardin at the hands of PN's Muhammad Hilman Idham at the Gombak Setia state constituency by 58 votes.
BN lost nine seats in the election, namely Sungai Panjang, Jeram, Batang Kali, Sungai Burong, Kuang, Semenyih, Selat Kelang, Sijangkang, and Dengkil.
The state polls saw Harapan-BN remain in the state government with 34 seats, while PN won 22 seats. - Mkini
