Saifuddin hints at PH making way for BN to contest Mahkota seat

 

PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party would help BN defend the Mahkota state seat in Johor.

GUA MUSANG: 

Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has hinted that Barisan Nasional (BN) will likely contest the Mahkota state seat on behalf of the unity government, despite Kluang Amanah previously claiming that nothing had been finalised.

“I’m here in Nenggiri to give support (to BN). As a symbol of our solidarity, we will also continue to support them in defending the Mahkota seat.

But before moving on to Mahkota, let’s first settle matters in Nenggiri,

 he said during an event with the residents in Meranto here.

Also present at the event was BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Kluang Amanah had previously lobbied for the Mahkota seat, which was held by the late Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain of Umno, prompting brickbats from several Umno leaders.

On Wednesday, Zahid said a BN candidate will represent the unity coalition in the by-election for the Mahkota seat on Sept 28.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, warned other unity government coalition partners not to demand to contest the state seat.

He said the understanding among the coalition partners was to uphold the principle of incumbency.

Kluang Amanah chief Zuhan Zain, however, said nothing had been finalised as leaders of the parties in the federal government have yet to discuss the matter.

He also said there is no unity government set up at the Johor state level.

Earlier today, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said his party is inclined to give way to incumbent parties to contest seats they previously held.

However, he said Amanah is also prepared to contest in any by-election if it gets the green light from the unity government. - FMT
