Suspect in Albertine Leo case to face 15 charges tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: 

The suspect linked to the kidnapping of six-year-old Albertine Leo will be charged tomorrow, says Johor police chief M Kumar.

In a statement, Kumar said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru and Kulai magistrates’ courts tomorrow to face a total of 15 charges.

The police have referred two investigation papers to the Johor deputy public prosecutor office,

 he said.

We have received instructions to proceed with 15 charges against the suspect.

Kumar said the 15 charges include one under Section 363 of the Penal Code for abducting a child and another under Section 346 of the same law for wrongfully confining a person.

He also said the suspect would be facing seven charges under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene materials and four charges under Section 8(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The suspect will also face one charge each under Section 10 and Section 15(a)(ii) of the same Act,

 he added.

On Sunday, police rearrested the suspect, who was previously released on bail, after sex toys and child pornography were found at his home in Kulai.

Police had previously found the man with Albertine, who went missing at a shopping mall in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on July 20, at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, on July 23.

He was remanded for seven days, later extended by six days, for investigation under Section 365 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Police also arrested four other suspects – two men and two women, aged 28 to 55 – who were released on police bail on July 26. - FMT
