No one is above the law, including 'royalty' - Pahang crown prince

Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has urged the police to investigate claims that a member of the state’s royal family was allegedly involved in an attack against a road construction worker.

In an Instagram story post, Tengku Hassanal responded to a Malaysiakini report that quoted Alias Awang, 44, who accused a Pahang royalty of being involved in a June 6 attack in which he was stabbed and shot.

“I want firm police action and a proper fair investigation, without compromise.

“No one is above the law, even ‘royalty’,” he said.

In a statement later, Tengku Hassanal stressed that he would not protect anyone, including members of the royal family, who engaged in unlawful actions.

“If there is evidence of wrongdoings, they must be charged in court.”

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported Alias as saying that the alleged assault occurred at a stable in Kuantan on June 6. He lodged a police report on June 8.

The father of eight went to the alleged scene of the incident after receiving a phone call from an individual, who is believed to be linked to the alleged royal family member, to meet him there.

“Some 20 people, including the son of the Tengku (a royal title), attacked me.

“One of them stabbed me with a knife in the right thigh. The Tengku’s son shot at my leg but missed,” he claimed.

Later that night, Alias claimed to have learnt that the attack was related to a plot of land in Rompin where he was involved in the construction of a road.

Primary suspect arrested

When contacted, Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu told Malaysiakini that three men, including an individual believed to be the main suspect, were arrested and remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations before being released on police bail.

He said two others were also arrested but released after their statements were recorded.

However, Zahari declined to comment when asked about the alleged involvement of a royal in the incident.

“We have arrested the primary suspect in this case and we are waiting for further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he said. - Mkini
