PETALING JAYA: The investigation paper on PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man over comments he made about the Chinese community in September has been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the police had carried out their investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities.
“The investigation paper has been referred to the AGC for further action,” he said in a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong), who asked why no legal action had been taken against Tuan Ibrahim over his remarks.
Malaysiakini previously reported Tuan Ibrahim claiming that prejudices would arise among the Malay community if the Chinese spoke their mother tongue.
He said this during the PAS muktamar when claiming that the language was a factor in sowing distrust, leading to division among the races.
Lim subsequently lodged a police report claiming that Tuan Ibrahim’s speech was “racially charged and had the potential to divide Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society”. - FMT
