DAP rules out Warisan banner in Sabah polls, hints at seat clash

DAP candidates in the upcoming Sabah state election will not contest under the Warisan banner, and the party may clash with Warisan in at least two seats.

This is after DAP used Warisan’s banner to contest in the previous state polls in 2020.

In a media interview, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke confirmed that his party will contest at least six out of 73 seats, including Elopura and Sri Tanjung.

DAP won these two seats in 2020. However, the two elected representatives – Calvin Chong and Justin Wong – left the party in January 2022 and subsequently joined Warisan in March of that year.

Loke added that DAP has not decided whether to use its logo or Pakatan Harapan’s for the state polls.

“Whether it will be a Harapan or ‘rocket’ logo, that has not been finalised yet, Sabah DAP will decide,” he was quoted as saying by Oriental Daily yesterday.

Sabah Harapan and BN cooperation

According to Loke, discussions on collaboration between Sabah Harapan and BN for the state election remain inconclusive despite preliminary talks.

The Sabah state legislative assembly must be dissolved by Oct 9, which means the state election must be held by Dec 9.
