PAC to scrutinise airport management, MAHB shares deal

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will begin proceedings in February to examine the management of Malaysia’s airports under the Finance Ministry, the Transport Ministry, Khazanah, and EPF.

PAC chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin confirmed to Malaysiakini that the proceedings will start during the first Dewan Rakyat sitting this year, scheduled from Feb 3 to March 6.

“We anticipate that the proceedings will summon over 10 witnesses, consisting of all stakeholders involved in airport management in Malaysia,” she said when contacted today.

On Wednesday, EPF defended its decision to sell its stake in Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) at a lower price and then repurchase it at a premium.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Faysal Wan Ahmad Kamal then called on the PAC to investigate the sale of MAHB shares, alleging it resulted in losses for EPF, KWAP, PNB contributors, and Khazanah.

MCA also urged the MACC to investigate if insider trading was involved.

Mas Ermieyati, also Masjid Tanah MP, added that the proceedings will address all issues related to airport management in the country.

“These include the sale of MAHB shares to GDA (Gateway Development Alliance Sdn Bhd), the reportedly high ticket prices in Sabah and Sarawak, and airport facilities - particularly the delay in installing the aerotrain at KLIA,” she briefly noted. - Mkini
