PETALING JAYA: 

National men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun became the first Malaysian pair to win the Indonesia Masters title since its inception in 2010.

And they did it in style by silencing the thunderous roar at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta this evening, defeating home pair Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-11, 21-19.

The Malaysian world No 13 pair took 37 minutes to overcome the 4th ranked Indonesians for the historic win.

It was also their first victory against Fajar-Muhammad Rian in five encounters.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun pocketed US$37,525 (RM164,759) for winning the BWF Super 500 series tournament.

The Malaysians have won four BWF World Tour titles and were runners-up four times in their career so far.

Earlier, the home crowd endured another disappointment when men’s singles player Jonatan Christie went down in a three-game battle lasting 77 minutes against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final. - FMT
