PETALING JAYA: Most areas in Sabah and Sarawak are expected to see heavy and continuous rains in the coming days throughout this Chinese New Year (CNY) season, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement Monday (Jan 27), the department said the continuous rain in Sarawak is expected to begin on Monday and last until this Thursday (Jan 30).
Areas forecast to experience a wet CNY include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, and Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi).
Meanwhile, Sabah’s continuous rainy weather is forecast to last from Monday until this Wednesday (Jan 29).
Affected areas include the west coast areas of Ranau and Kota Belud, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan), and Kudat, according to MetMalaysia.
All residents living in affected areas are advised to carry rain gear whenever going outside during this CNY season and stay updated on latest weather information from MetMalaysia’s website or official media channels. - Star
