KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has decreed that the government launch a nationwide anti-bullying campaign beginning at the primary school level.
The King warned that if bullying is not curbed early, it risks creating a generation that lacks respect and compassion.
His Majesty said bullying not only leaves deep emotional and mental scars but can also lead to tragic consequences.
“Children must be taught from a young age about this issue. Through such campaigns, they will learn the meaning of mutual respect and discipline,” the King said in a royal address on Monday (Aug 18).
He welcomed the government’s move to introduce the Penal Code (Amendment) 2025 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) 2025 to tackle bullying.
According to the King, this proves the government’s strong resolve to combat the issue decisively.
Sultan Ibrahim also reminded the government that a cross-ministerial and multi-agency approach is needed to ensure bullying is addressed comprehensively.
Earlier, His Majesty granted an audience to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil at Istana Negara.
During the session, Fahmi outlined the ministry’s initiatives to address bullying and also briefed the King on preparations for the upcoming 2025 National Day celebrations.
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim had also granted an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
