Thunderstorm warning until 2am for KL, Putrajaya, Selangor and 5 other states

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and several parts of Selangor, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to continue until 2am tomorrow.

A similar advisory was also issued for Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah.

In the advisory issued at 10.15pm, MetMalaysia said the areas in Selangor expected to be affected include Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang.

The advisory also applies to Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Rembau, and Tampin in Negri Sembilan as well as Muar and Batu Pahat in Johor.

In Sarawak, Miri, Marudi, and Limbang are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, while in Sabah, the warning covers Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Nabawan, Papar, and Telupid.

"The warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, which are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.

"Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no longer than six hours per issuance," MetMalaysia said. - NST
