No need rally over flag issue, action already taken - cops

The police have advised Umno Youth not to go ahead with its plan to rally over a flag blunder in Penang.

Acting Penang police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the authorities have already taken the necessary actions over the incident.

"We suggest that they do not proceed with it because the police have already taken appropriate action.

"The individual involved had already been arrested, and we also plan to submit our investigation paper to the state prosecutor's office tomorrow with advice to charge (the person)," he told Malaysiakini today.

According to the senior police officer, his team has yet to receive a notice from the protest organiser.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh announced his plan to visit and teach the owner of a hardware store in Penang on how to properly display the Jalur Gemilang.

Following this, the party wing planned to mobilise a crowd for a protest rally at the shop in Kepala Batas tomorrow.

The latest flag blunder went viral on social media yesterday after a Facebook account under the name Nazirul Hafiz posted a 20-second video, in which a man is seen carrying the flag upside down on a pole, while another man records him.

Police then launched an investigation and arrested a man over the incident. - Mkini
