KLUANG: Police arrested three Pakistani men in an operation today after they were suspected of breaking into a workshop and stealing vehicle batteries and equipment along Jalan Kampung Baru.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 25, were picked up at 12.30am in Taman Sri Jaya following a report lodged by a 37-year-old workshop owner, who discovered his premises had been broken into at 11.57am on Feb 5.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that during the raid, police seized a set of car keys and van keys, as well as two vehicles believed to be linked to the case.
Checks revealed that all three suspects had no prior criminal records, while urine screening tests showed they were negative for drugs, Bahrin said in a statement today.
He added that the suspects were remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Bahrin urged members of the public with information related to the case to contact the nearest police station or Kluang district headquarters at 07-7784222, 07-7784256, or 014-3656822.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Bahrin confirmed that a 17-year-old college student lodged a police report on a physical altercation along Jalan Dato Kapten Ahmad, which went viral on social media yesterday.
He said preliminary investigations found the altercation stemmed from a traffic accident after the teenager's vehicle rear-ended a Perodua Aruz at a traffic light junction at about 9.38pm.
"The dispute escalated when the teenager refused to exit his vehicle to discuss the matter following the collision," Bahrin said, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing. - NST
