TAWAU: Police have arrested an undocumented migrant less than 24 hours after a teenage girl reported being raped at a village in Merotai Besar.
Tawau police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the 20-year-old suspect was detained at 12.54am today by a team from the Bombalai police station.
The arrest was made at an unnumbered house in the village following a report lodged at 12.08am the same day.
"Initial investigations suggest the incident occurred at about 2am on Feb 11 at a residence in the village," Jasmin said.
"The victim, a 15-year-old girl, alleged that the suspect - who is her cousin's boyfriend - entered her room unnoticed before fondling her and forcing her to have sexual intercourse."
Jasmin said the suspect allegedly threatened the victim's family, causing her to comply out of fear.
The suspect, a Filipino believed to be without valid travel or identification documents, was taken to the Tawau police headquarters for further action.
"The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code," Jasmin said. - NST
