Yeoh orders police report over viral 'protection money' video

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said she has ordered a police report to be lodged over a video that has gone viral on social media, purportedly depicting two PKR members allegedly demanding "protection money" from a business.

Yeoh (above) said if the allegations are true, the man will be immediately dismissed from his role in the Federal Territory Residents Representative Council.

“Our stance is clear: there is no tolerance for any form of 'protection money' or middleman practices,” she said in a statement today.

The Segambut MP urged the public to file complaints regarding misconduct involving any officers or agencies under the Federal Territories Department with the department's integrity unit, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), or the MACC.

Malaysiakini has reached out to acting Wangsa Maju PKR chief Azmee Abd Rahim for comment.

The eight-minute and 34-second-long video was uploaded last night by a Facebook account called "Kelab Penyokong Perikatan Nasional".

The caption claimed that two of the men in the video are Wangsa Maju PKR division committee members and that they were soliciting payments from a massage parlour.

The men are shown speaking about an offer related to DBKL's inner workings. One of them introduces himself as a member of the Federal Territory Residents Representative Council.

However, most of the audio is muffled and indistinct.

Most of the video appears to be a clip from a CCTV recording dated March 24, 2026, beginning from 10.28pm.

The incident allegedly occurred at a massage parlour in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

DBKL denies involvement

In a separate statement, DBKL denied any involvement with the men's alleged activities.

It issued a strongly worded rejection of claims linking it with requests for protection money and abuse of power.

“Any statements made by the individuals are personal statements and do not in any way represent DBKL's position or actions,” it said.

The council stressed that it takes the dissemination of the video seriously, as it could affect the perception of DBKL's integrity, credibility, and reputation.
