KUALA LUMPUR: A Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement team drew praise after stopping along the North-South Expressway to assist a family of five caught in heavy rain during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel rush.
The moment, captured on video and shared on the Selangor Road Transport Department's official Facebook page, went viral, with many commending the team's compassion during the busy festive period.
The incident occurred at Km440 of the expressway during Ops HRA 2026, as Malaysians travelled back to their hometowns.
While on patrol in low visibility and wet conditions, the team spotted a man riding a motorcycle with his wife and three young children.
Concerned for their safety, they stopped to assist the family, who were on their way to purchase Hari Raya Aidilfitri essentials despite having no alternative transport.
The rider's wife and children were taken into the patrol vehicle, while the man continued riding the motorcycle cautiously.
The team later ensured the family reached their destination safely.
The gesture resonated widely online, with many describing it as a reminder that enforcement officers play a crucial role in safeguarding lives beyond enforcing the law.
Among the reactions, Facebook user Pak Jai said the incident reflected the kind of enforcement the public hoped to see.
"This is the RTD the rakyat wants — help first, investigate if there is any offence, not immediately issue summonses or seize vehicles," he said.
Another user, Ching Hui See, said not all enforcement officers lacked compassion.
"Not all RTD officers are heartless. There are still those who are kind."
Faizal Nordin said he was deeply moved by the gesture.
"Alhamdulillah, this really touched my heart. May Allah bless this family with a four-wheel vehicle," he added. - NST
