Spunky lady goes viral for suggesting foxes to Muslims as a substitute for dogs

IT TAKES a unique personality to delve into the field of exotic pets. We are not talking about cats and dogs, but venomous snakes and even some animals that we never knew existed.

And behind this is no other than a very interesting lady, Nur Nina Farisha Woo Abdullah, 29, who is drawing attention for her pet contents on social media.

Her group, called Brotherhood Reptiles, shows her hugging fluffy llamas, holding scorpions and even petting Patagonian Maras, whatever that is. There is never a dull moment at Brotherhood Reptiles.

But one of her videos has risen to the top, suggesting a muslim-friendly marble fox as a substitute for the husky. In the video, she could be seen describing the texture of its fur as well as the creature’s diet.

However, some netizens in the comment section pointed out that foxes are close relatives to dogs, so does that mean they are haram to the muslims?

Another netizen said foxes and wolves are not dirty the same way dogs are, but that does not mean they can be kept as animal companions.

The comment section has since turned into a religious debate on what is and what is not permissible.

Also, Grace Khoo Peck Wan added that keeping a fox as a pet in Malaysia is highly restricted and generally requires special permits from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.

“Be prepared to see street foxes roaming the roads after five years. Please leave them where they belong—they don’t actually need our care,” said Rajen PK

Away from all the fox and dog talk, the lady herself makes for a fine topic for conversation.

According to Bernama, Nur Nina developed a phobia of snakes from a young age following a childhood incident that left a lasting impression, causing her to avoid serpents for many years.

However, she gradually overcame her fear while in college, progressing from cautiously touching them to eventually handling them with greater confidence and ease.

She later co-founded Brotherhood Reptiles with her husband around 2015, before opening a physical shop in 2018, which has since grown to house hundreds of exotic species.

Note that the premise is in Alam Damai, Cheras. So now we all know where to go if we are looking for an exotic animal capable of making a snack out of our neighbour’s annoying cat or dog.

On another note, we are equally interested to find out what other interesting creature Nina will bring into her content. — Focus Malaysia
