Fire damages roof structure at Teluk Intan school

TELUK INTAN: A fire broke out at a school here today, involving insulation material beneath the roof of a three-storey building.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the fire at SK Perwira was first detected at 6.42pm by members of the public, who saw smoke coming from the roof area.

"A Fire and Rescue Department team from Teluk Intan was rushed to the scene.

"We found that the fire involved insulation material under the tiled roof of a block housing three classrooms, a hall and a storage room on the second floor.

"The fire affected the area above the hall and storage room. About six per cent of the structure was damaged," he said.

Sabarodzi said the fire was fully extinguished by 8pm and no injuries were reported.

"The operation also involved a team of four members from the Teluk Intan Volunteer Fire Brigade, one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit and one volunteer fire appliance.

"Firefighters used one hose with two water jets supplied from the fire engine and a nearby hydrant. Six dry powder extinguishers were also used to put out the fire," he said.

Sabarodzi said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the total losses. - NST
