Bersama opens applications for election candidates

 

Parti Bersama Malaysia is now taking applications from Malaysians who want to become its election candidates, with priority given to those in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Applicants will first have to register as party members and go through a three-phase assessment system, said Bersama leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

The process requires applicants to declare their income and assets along with their education, career, and family backgrounds.

Applicants will also be screened based on their backgrounds, while qualitative surveys in their local communities will be done to obtain feedback on them, the duo said in a statement today.

Bersama’s initiative follows the party’s decision to make its electoral debut in the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

Rafizi and Nik Nazmi took over Bersama last month after both quit PKR in May.

Assessment criteria

In its statement announcing the call for election candidates, the party listed four assessment criteria. These are:

• Expertise and ability to add value to a community based on their educational background, career, and involvement in the community.

• Screening of past political activity (if relevant) to weed out candidates whose image may not be a good fit for Bersama.

• Their suitability based on the types of seats being contested - Parliament, state assembly - together with their age, gender, and ethnicity.

• Charisma and image to be presented as a candidate that contributes to Bersama’s image.

Only applicants who make it through the first and second rounds of screenings will be called for a final interview with the Bersama central leadership.
