FAM wants to consult AFC on release of audit report

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will consult the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on whether the regional body's audit report can be released for debate during the Parliamentary sitting beginning June 22.

On Saturday, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh called for FAM to publicly release the full audit report tabled at the national association's Extraordinary Congress on Wednesday.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said the national body has referred the matter to AFC secretary-general Datuk Seri Windsor Paul and is awaiting a response.

"I have already sent Ramkarpal's statement to Windsor and we are awaiting their response," said Noor Azman in a press conference at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur today.

"If you ask me, we are unsure whether we can give it to third parties because we do not want any governmental interference in the association. I hope, if possible, we can settle this matter with the AFC and FIFA.

"I believe at the AFC and FIFA level, it has already been settled. They have conducted their audit. I hope we leave this matter to us, the AFC and FIFA.

"As an administrator, I do not feel that third-party intervention is necessary. But if the matter is brought directly to the government, it could be seen as third-party intervention — this is my view.

"Our governing bodies are FIFA and the AFC. They have already stepped in. They already know what is happening."

Meanwhile, FAM honorary president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin said the association has nothing to hide regarding the audit report but does not have the authority to decide on its release.

"I have no authority to decide. That falls under the powers of the president and the executive committee. They have the authority to discuss it with the AFC and make a decision," said Hamidin.

"The report has not even been fully submitted to FAM yet.

"As I said, we are happy to open up for the sake of football, which is the number one sport. For me, there is nothing to hide. Let the president and the new leadership decide on it." - FMT
