“In the past, Onn Hafiz begged DAP to help campaign for BN,” said Nga, pointing out his betrayal

HOUSING AND Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has publicly expressed disappointment with Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi following the latter’s recent remarks that he would rather lose his position than sit at the same table with DAP leaders.

In a post on X, Nga claimed Onn Hafiz previously sought assistance from DAP to help campaign for the BN candidate during the Mahkota by-election campaign.

“But now, his arrogant and haughty attitude is deeply regretted. This is not Malay culture. I am confident that the people will reject this arrogant and conceited attitude,” he added.

To recap, Onn Hafiz said the  political reality in the state is different at the federal level where cooperation between BN, especially UMNO, and DAP has never been established.

“When the state government is re-established with the consent of the Sultan of Johor and the acting Sultan of Johor, if the people give the mandate to BN to lead again, we will never be with DAP in the state government,” he added.

Since Nga’s statement was made on social media, netizens were quick to offer their opinion regarding this tender subject.

“I hope Yang Berhormat and all the leaders of PH learned your lesson. The descendants of Onn and Razak in Malaysia truly cannot be trusted. Their relatives are the same,” lamented netizen @DrAFKam.

But Onn Hafiz has his supporters too. @AbdulKormin suggested that the Chief Minister finally realised who the real DAP is, although he added that this might just be a drama.

Also, @64a95f7a6dd8448 claimed PAS was soft and willing to sit at the same table with those of the same religion and race to find a way to work together.

“When will the public realise that voting for this party is not like supporting a football team? We should just throw out those who are not functional. They should work for the people, not get rich because of the people. We want to instill this idea in them so that our community moves forward,” pointed out @kendrickentucky.

For many observers, the episode is less about who sits at which table and more about the fleeting nature of political alliances in Malaysia.

Yesterday’s campaign partners can quickly become today’s political punching bags, especially when elections loom and party loyalists demand clear lines in the sand.

Nga’s reminder of DAP’s role in helping BN during the Mahkota by-election appears intended to highlight what he sees as political ingratitude, while Onn Hafiz’s remarks signal an effort to reassure UMNO’s traditional base.

In the end, the controversy serves as yet another reminder that in  politics, alliances may be forged out of necessity, but loyalty often remains conditional.—  Focus Malaysia
