PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating an alleged provocation at the National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya after four reports were received.

Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said the reports were received on Aug 31 and Sept 1.

He said a video uploaded on Facebook by an account owner named “Anwar Captain Goose” showed a man in an orange or brown shirt allegedly provoking and pushing members of the public who were waiting for the gates to the seating area to open.

“This resulted in pushing and shoving, with several people falling,” he said in a statement.

Aidi said the incident was believed to have occurred at about 5am on Aug 31.

The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements to induce public disorder and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

It is also being probed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for engaging in insulting behaviour.

Police have urged members of the public with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The man in question has also been urged to appear at the Putrajaya police headquarters to assist in the investigation.

In the video, the suspect could be heard urging members of the public seated on the ground to climb over the barriers. He was also seen shouting at a police officer, asking when the gates would be opened and saying that those waiting should not be “treated like animals”. - FMT
