Melaka p-hailing riders to get motorcycle maintenance subsidy

 Chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh says delivery riders who send their motorcycles to selected workshops will receive a subsidy of 20% to 30% off the total cost.

The motorcycle maintenance subsidy is expected to benefit over 3,000 delivery riders in Melaka.

Melaka will introduce a motorcycle maintenance subsidy to ease the financial burden of over 3,000 p-hailing delivery riders in the state.

Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said the allocation would be tabled at the state executive council meeting this week and details would be announced next week.

“The subsidy will involve selected motorcycle repair workshops appointed in each state constituency. This will help p-hailing riders access maintenance services at lower rates.

“Delivery riders who send their motorcycles for service will receive a subsidy of 20% to 30% off the total cost. Their welfare remains a priority for the state government, and this initiative aligns with the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) concept,” he said, adding that the initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to appreciate p-hailing riders, who play a vital role in facilitating the community’s daily affairs through digital platforms.

He was speaking to reporters following his one-day stint as a food delivery rider around Pengkalan Balak and Masjid Tanah town today.

Rauf revealed that he took orders and delivered goods today to better understand the challenges and routines of riders striving to earn a living for their families.

“We will announce the registration process for qualified workshops alongside service providers such as Grab, Foodpanda, and Shopee later.”

Rauf also said the state government is exploring ways to expand Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contributions for p-hailing workers to enhance their protection.

He said the digital economy had transformed lifestyles, business methods, and employment patterns, making p-hailing a crucial sector within the digital economy ecosystem.

Rauf said efforts to strengthen the p-hailing ecosystem aligned with the vision to establish Melaka as a digital state, which would include implementing an official address system in villages that currently lacked formal addresses.

He said this is essential to enhance the government’s service delivery system and match the efficiency of delivery systems run by p-hailing service providers. - FMT
