PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the meeting would be held after PAS’s annual muktamar, which runs from tomorrow until Sept 5, Berita Harian reported.
“We will convene a meeting to discuss relevant issues, including the issue of Bersatu. We may also discuss Bersatu’s position in PN,” he was quoted as saying.
Takiyuddin maintained that Bersatu had no reason to stay in PN, saying it was clearly no longer aligned with the coalition, which PAS now leads.
He added that under the PN constitution, components could be sacked or have their memberships suspended.
Cracks started emerging in PAS and Bersatu’s relationship towards the end of last year, culminating in PAS ending their political cooperation in June.
Bersatu, which went solo in the Negeri Sembilan polls and contested against PN, later accused PAS of leading the opposition coalition astray and making it “toxic”.
Separately, Utusan Malaysia quoted Takiyuddin as confirming that PAS leaders would attend the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur next week.
Invitations had been extended to Takiyuddin, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and two other party representatives.
Takiyuddin said Hadi’s attendance would be subject to his health, and that another leader would replace the PAS president if he could not make it.
Umno and PAS formally rekindled their ties in the Negeri Sembilan election, contesting under a Barisan Nasional-PN alliance and winning a two-thirds majority. - FMT
