Labourer admits to hurting father with cempedak fruit

PETALING JAYA:

A labourer pleaded guilty at the Kota Bharu sessions court to hitting his father with a cempedak fruit last month.

Zarid Dainal Rahim, 30, entered his plea after the charge was read to him before judge Zulkipli Abllah.

Zarid, who works on an oil palm plantation, is accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his father, Rahim Mamat, 58, using a cempedak fruit at a house in Kampung Sungai Johor, Kuala Krai, at about 11am on Aug 13.

The charge is framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code and read with Section 326A of the same code.

Section 325 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction. Under Section 326A, the prison term may be extended to twice the maximum term if the victim is a family member.

The court fixed Oct 4 for case mention and sentencing. - FMT
