A former policeman claims then Hilir Perak police chief Shuhaily Zain hit him after he failed to salute as his car passed a guard post.

The former policeman’s lawyers said they submitted a formal request to Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar for the report to be reconsidered as no action had been taken against Shuhaily – who was the Hilir Perak police chief at the time – in connection with the complaint.
Lawyers Kamal Hisham Ja’afar and Nor Tamrin said their client, Saifuddin Abdul Kader, faced various difficulties after lodging the report against Shuhaily, eventually resulting in his dismissal from the force.
In the report, Saifuddin claimed he was scolded by Shuhaily after failing to salute him as his car passed a guard post.
He alleged that Shuhaily hit him on the left shoulder and threatened to reassign him to Sabah or Sarawak.
The lawyers said the charges brought against Shuhaily on Oct 21 over the alleged assault of two police officers last month had given Saifuddin hope that “he still has an opportunity to seek justice” some 11 years after the alleged incident.
“We therefore humbly appeal for this case to be reviewed and reconsidered to ensure that the rule of law continues to be upheld without discrimination,” they said in a statement.
