Nik Nazmi: I apologise to BERSAMA for the embarrassment, willing to face whatever consequences

Editor’s Note: This is a statement by BERSAMA co-leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad which was made available on his WhatsApp group.

I WISH to answer the arrest of two unmarried individuals by JAIS (Selangor Islamic Religious Department) in a secluded space in Petaling Jaya on Oct 16.

I wish to confirm that I am one of two individuals in the incident.

I do not wish to prolong the issue except to state that my colleagues and I commenced a discussion at our studio in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur before deciding to adjourn to Petaling Jaya to view several materials related to the project that we were discussing.

At the time the JAIS (enforcement) officers arrived, it is true that only the woman and I were on-site.

I admit that this is wrong. As I informed the JAIS officers, we did not commit any indecent act that could have given rise to suspicion.

I wish to apologise to my wife, family and all those who are affected by my misjudgment which should not have happened. I shall willingly cooperate in any ensuing legal matters.

I also wish to apologise to BERSAMA for having disappointed its members and supporters and given that this issue could affect the party, I am willing to accept whatever decision made by the party.

I hope everyone will respect the legal process by not prolonging their discussion (speculation) on social media.

Former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was also a former PKR vice-president and ex-Setiawanga MP.
