‘Datuk Kabi’ faces another cheating charge

He claims trial to inducing Foo Kee Peng into handing over RM150,000 by allegedly misleading the victim to believe that he could help to settle a TNB summons.
dato-kabiPETALING JAYA: A businessman who called himself “Datuk Kabi” was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with cheating an industrial entrepreneur involving RM150,000.
C. Kamaleshwaran, 38, claimed trial to inducing Foo Kee Peng, 68, into handing him the amount by misleading the victim to believe that he could help to settle a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) summons for him.
He allegedly committed the offence at the PJ Hilton Hotel lobby here at 2.20pm on March 31, 2016.
The accused had between 2009 and 2012 appeared in court to answer similar charges, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment and whipping, and liable to a fine on conviction.
Magistrate Salamiah Salleh set RM8,000 as bail in one surety and set May 19 for re-mention.
The accused, who was represented by counsel V. Saravanan, paid the bail.
Deputy public prosecutor Mary Phoon Keat Mee represented the prosecution. -FMT
