YOURSAY | ‘Sarawak now will have to decide if their friends are worth keeping.’
And even more Malaysians would shed tears of joy if the National Security Council Act is abolished alongside the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), Printing Presses and Publications Act; and the whole Election Commission resigns to give way to true professionals and democrats.
Vent: So, it is now very clear - the House speaker pulled the rug from under all our feet in accordance with PM Najib Razak's orders.
It is also equally clear that Umno is in cahoots with PAS in a wily game that deceived us for a bit, but Najib took his BN partners for a ‘consensual’ ride which the electorate will never forget.
So how will the vote go when finally here is the golden opportunity for every Muslim MP to make Malaysia Muslim/Malay-centric. Will they pass up this chance?
Your guess is as good as mine. As for the tears, this is the stuff of which these men of God are made of - straw.
Clever Voter: Whatever decision they have arrived at and the consequences, it’s now up to each member of parliament to consider.
There is no winner in this. Political values and beliefs are split right in the middle, more so within the majority Malay ethnic group, and even so between the urban and rural population.
Fiddling with the rule of law to satisfy a few egos will inevitably have its repercussions. The political leadership is weak to its core.
By accommodating and compromising for few extra votes, the Najib administration has surrendered its middle ground at the expense of its partners.
Sarawak now will have to decide if their friends are worth keeping. If BN continues to gamble on this, we will see the next stage of political disruption which could possibly include internal squabbling among its major parties. A blessing in disguise?
Vijay47: Yes, PAS and Umno can do whatever they want in Parliament. The whole nation is watching how Sabah and Sarawak will vote. Of course, we have long given up any hope in MCA and MIC.
Goldee: “‘Before this, they made all sorts of conclusions even before hearing the matter, and what Islam wants,’ said Nasrudin and added with a smile.”
It is not what Islam wants, it is what Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS wanted.
Don't try to deviate from the whole issue - it was not only the non-Muslims but also the educated Muslims who are opposing the bill, which is considered unconstitutional.
The non-Muslims are not ignorant but are very well informed and that is the reason why they do not support Hadi's bill.
Truth1: Can't these opportunistic politicians, especially from PAS, get it into their heads that the opposition isn’t towards Islam, but towards human beings like them who profess to be Muslims?
The law, to all intents and purposes, may be ‘just'. Unfortunately, it is not God implementing and enforcing the law, but human beings.
SusahKes: Oh, how I wish he had also shed tears when reports on the colossal sums found in Malaysian Official 1's (MO1) private bank account were first reported.
But then again, this is the PAS of today.
Clever Voter: Ex-DPM’s son Mohamed Tawfik Ismail should have realised that Parliament is no longer a symbol of democracy. The electoral system is now being redesigned in favour of BN.
Parliament has apparently been hijacked by self-serving politicians from BN. In years to come, Parliament could possibly be turned into a museum of corruption and scandals. Wishful thinking?
Drngsc: Indeed, the Parliament died a long time ago. That is why, it is correct to say that democracy is dead in Malaysia.
We get to put two pieces of paper into a box every five years or so. But even that election process is severely flawed, with severe gerrymandering and malapportionment.
In addition to rampant vote buying and state control of the news media, that means elections are never free, never fair, never clean.
There is no rule of law (only rule by law), and no accountability and transparency. So where is democracy? Demo-crazy is more like it.
That is why many of us are working so hard, against all odds, to vote out Umno-BN and save Malaysia. We have no choice.
Wira: Najib is doing Hadi a favour by allowing his bill to get a reading in Parliament and getting non-Muslims worked up so that rural Malays may feel that they are being threatened and are obliged to unite behind Umno and PAS to protect their religion.
He wants to keep this game going to divert attention from the mother of all corruption and scandals, that is, 1MDB, and to allow PAS a face-saving accountability to their electorate.
Hornbill: Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia is only carrying out orders from his boss, MO1. Although MO1 had declared that BN practices consensus, he also has to be seen as not anti-Hadi/PAS.
So, while declaring that the government will not take over from PAS the tabling of the bill, he announced that it was up to the speaker to decide whether to allow the bill to be debated.
This gives the impression that the speaker is independent. He wins both ways. MCA, MIC, etc, cannot blame MO1 so his image remains good to these BN component parties.
Iiiizzzziiii: Change is in the air and it works both way - down the path of darkness or towards a brighter future. So, the people have to decide for themselves what they really want, in a single and united voice.
Perhaps it is time to translate words into action. One side is already doing it.- Mkini
